RENTON – More than 1,300 young athletes participated in this year’s CYO Athletics track and field season, which culminated with about 500 athletes vying in the championship meet June 1 at Renton Memorial Stadium.

Boys and girls in grades 4-8 from 27 Catholic schools and five private schools competed in events including sprints, distance and relay races, plus long jump, high jump, shot put, softball throw and turbo javelin. Besides receiving individual awards, finishers collected team points. (Click here for individual results.)

“The season went very well; we had more participants than last year,” said William Woodworth, assistant director of CYO Athletics for the Archdiocese of Seattle.

“Even though we had some rainy meets, that didn’t stop the athletes from enjoying their time with their friends and competing against each other,” Woodworth added.

The season wrapped up with two preliminary meets, a relay meet, a pentathlon meet for eighth graders and the championship meet in Renton, where the overall champions and division team champions were crowned.

The overall Boys’ Team Championship winners were:

  • Division AA/A — Sacred Heart, Bellevue
  • Division AAA — St. Anthony, Renton

The overall Girls’ Team Championship winners were:
