SEATTLE — Father Gordon W. Douglas, known by many as Father Doug, died July 30, 2024, at his home in Seattle. He was 81.

Born in 1942 to G.W. Douglas and Alice Burke Douglas in Seattle, he grew up attending St. Margaret and Our Lady of Fatima parishes. He knew at an early age he wanted to be a Catholic priest and entered St. Edward Seminary in Kenmore when he was 14. He was one of 16 men ordained by Archbishop Thomas A. Connolly on May 18, 1968, at St. James Cathedral.

After ordination, he served at several parishes in the Archdiocese of Seattle, including St. Rose de Viterbo in Longview and St. Matthew in north Seattle. But his favorite and longest-tenured role was as chaplain at Bishop Blanchet High School, a position he held for 38 years.

He was known for his sense of humor and devotion to the Lord, the church, the community and his Blanchet students. Near his retirement, he wrote and published a book, “Hey Father,” a series of stories inspired by students’ questions that began with “Hey, Father ...”

Father Douglas is survived by his sisters Gail Murphy and Terry Douglas and brother Bob Douglas. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Joe.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Aug. 14 at Bishop Blanchet High School in Seattle. Please RSVP here

Interment will follow at Holyrood Cemetery in Shoreline.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Father Gordon Douglas Scholarship Endowment at Bishop Blanchet High School to provide financial aid for students.
