Dewey Churlin

SHORELINE – Dewey Christopher Churlin of Everett died of natural causes on May 19, 2024, in Shoreline, after suffering with dementia for a few years. He was 92.

Born July 24, 1931, in Seattle, he attended Queen Anne High School, where he played baseball and was invited to professional tryouts after his high school years. He served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps, including two years in action in Korea.

In 1953, he returned to Seattle, where he worked as a fisherman with his father on their family boat, fishing for tuna, salmon and other fish in Puget Sound and surrounding waters. He married Marlene Anderson on May 29, 1957. 

Many times, he worked multiple jobs to ensure his family was housed, fed and clothed. He joined Lakeside Industries in 1965, working at the Fremont Asphalt plant, where he ran the asphalt mixing and operated the loaders and other equipment. He worked for Lakeside Industries for over 35 years, retiring in 1996.

He was a member of St. Thomas More Parish in Lynnwood. He enjoyed coaching all sports, but especially baseball, coaching his sons for many years. He was involved as a coach from Little League to 18-year-old select ball, traveling with the team to tournaments.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Larry and Anthony and sisters Jeanie and Catherine.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marlene; sons Anton (Linnea), John, Larry and Nick; daughter Janine; sister Donna, grandchildren Ross, John, Kyle, Evan, Kasey and Alec, and five great-grandchildren, with one on the way.

Interment will be June 3, 2024, at Holyrood Cemetery in Shoreline.
